Further Planning.

Further Planning
Our main actor, Max Boyden, attends Tunbridge Wells Boys Grammar School and therefore we decided that, in order to suit his availability to our needs, we would aim to shoot at his school using drama students from there as well as those who attend Weald. This way we will be able to visit the school rather than removing Max from his school schedule. The school had the appropriate setting and we will bring any other equipment we need and similarly, we feel that it will be more credited to shoot in unfamiliar surroundings.

Here is the progress update video of Jak calling the school to arrange our shooting times.

Film Title.

Film Title
'The Retrograde' is the title of our trailer. We wanted to give the impression that the title reflects the actual event in our trailer, hence why we used 'the' at the start. Retrograde seemed to fit perfectly with the contents of our trailer.

Costumes, props and make-up.

Costumes, Props and Make-up

We chose to have our main character, Lewie, wearing jeans and a top/coat for most of our filming. This is because we want him to look like any normal teenage boy. Also we thought that it would be much easier for him to wear something like this, that he always wears anyway as it would help continuity. If his outfit was very complicated and he needed vast amounts of make-up and props, each time we filmed, it would not look exactly the same and then there would be major continuity errors.

Storyboard.

Storyboard
After some hard work, we have completed our first draft of our storyboard and we are very pleased with it. We learnt from last year that as we continue to work on the project we come up with new ideas of scenes to add, and we made the mistake last year of having to redo our storyboard every time we thought of a new idea. therefore, this year we cut it up so that it is easy to add scenes and change the order of them etc.
This is our storyboard:

Script.

Script

We struggled at first with writing the script as we were trying to do it at the same time as we were doing our storyboard. However we then decided it would be easier to finish the storyboard first and then write the script. We have completed our first draft of the script.

Green Screen Testing.

Green Screen Testing

This is a test for the green screen part of our trailer. This is the bit with the government.

Voice Over.

Voice Over
An essential part of our trailer is the voice over, however it is also the hardest part. We therefore decided to begin it early so that we have time to develop and change it according. This is our first draft:

Person one: Who is he?

Person two: He's asking questions, this leads to suspicions. And he's not the only one.

Person one: He's moving. Watch him. Keep him in view.

Person two: We need to contain these people and erase all knowledge of this situation. Sustain visuals on him. Don't lose him.

Person one: We'll need to perform another wipe when this has been dealt with.

Person two: We need to do it now.

Music Research.

Music Research
As we are progressing through our narrative idea, we decided it would be a good idea to look into what music we will have playing through the trailer.
A YouTube account called 'The Secession' produces music for real films and trailers, so looking at the music they produce was a good starting point. We are allowed to use the music they make for our own personal videos if we don't monetize it, for free.

I analysed a few trailers which had music suited for our genre in and then found music by the Secession which sounded similar and may use.
50 Shades of Grey had very tense music which engaged me as a viewer. I liked how they timed some of the important shots according to the beats of the music.

LUCY also had cinematic music which we may use during the end of our trailer.

At the end of the transformers trailer it has an epic sound effect in which the footage flashed on screen, we liked this.

Narrative Ideas.

3 Narrative Ideas

These are our three ideas for our trailer.
We have decided to do the 2nd idea as we believe that this is the easiest one to expand on. Also it is the most original idea out of the three and is the easiest to create whilst still looking effective.

Location.

Location Research
Location (School Scene)

- This scene will be done at the Weald of Kent School. The reason we chose this is because it is our school and will be easy to film there once quiet.
- The corridor and walk ways at the school are perfect for the trailer as they seem clean and when we see the students walk out of there lesson it will be easy to fill up the corridor
- When the boy gets embarrassed in front of everyone we will film this in the school canteen as this is a very stereotypical place to have this humiliation

Location (Party Scene)

- The party scene could also be filmed at Weald in the drama studio as we could flash lights of different colours and get a group of people to fill up the room and dance so it looks like a house party
·   - If we decide we don’t want to film this at school we can use an actual house and with clever camera angles and shots we could make it look like there are more people at the house then there actually is

Location (Friends talking scene)

- Because we are linking this scene to the school canteen scene, we have to ensure that the backgrounds of both these scenes are the same colour.
·   - A white wall will work the best as you wont notice the cut in the scene
·   - For this we will have to find a white wall or something similar to the colour of the school canteen

Location (Government Scene)

- We need to film this scene in a room without windows
·   -  We will need a big enough wall in which we will stick green card on the walls for the green screen effect
·  - The lighting needs to be perfect as the men need to be blacked out and the green screen needs to have enough lighting, this will be hard to film

Poster Analysis: The Great Gatsby

Poster Analysis: The Great Gatsby
We were given a task to study a poster and pick out the most important things that are commonly involved. I chose to look at the poster of The Great Gatsby:

After analysing this poster I chose a few things that I thought were important and that we should include in our poster. These were:
1. Main characters (normally taking up the main part of the poster)
2. Names of the main actors
3. Release date
4. The name of the film
5. The poster should reflect the genre of the film and tie in with all the other advertising thing e.g. the website.

This has helped me to gain a better understanding of what the poster should include to be most effective and attract the right audience and tie in with the film.
